RACE HIGHLIGHTS:
Karlie Garcia of Roseville, Calif., and Darren Fahy of Carlsbad, Calif., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) West Regional today.  In the girls’ race, Garcia went out hard followed closely by a large chase group, including Kelsey Braithwaite of Perry, Utah, and Makena Morley of Bigfork, Mont.  At approximately two miles, Garcia took command of the course and never looked back, capturing the title in 17:46, marking her second year to qualify for the FLCCC National Finals. Braithwaite, a senior at Box Elder High School, finished second in 17:55, with Morley, a freshman at Bigfork High School, placing third in 18:07.

In the boys’ race, Darren Fahy, a senior at La Costa Canyon High School, ran with a pack of twenty until the second mile when he made his move to distance himself from the other runners.  Nathan Weitz of Spokane, Wash., attempted to overcome Fahy with 200 meters remaining, but Fahy held onto the lead to win the race in 15:29.  Weitz, a senior at The Oaks Classical Christian Academy finished second in 15:30, with Robert Farnsworth, a senior at Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho, placing third in 15:41. Fahy and Weitz are two-time FLCCC National Finalists.
